Alamein Neighbourhood House: Dial a Bus

This service provides transport to shopping centres in the local area.

  • Mondays trips to Forest Hill Chase/Glen Waverley shopping centres
  • Fridays trips to Chadstone/Ashburton shopping centres.

Boroondara Council

Boroondara Council can provide a door-to-door transport for residents for shopping, to community centres and for one-off appointments. For people who are not able to use private or public transport or taxis, there is a HACC eligibility assessment and you need to be reasonably independent and physically mobile.

Three accessible buses operate from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. The bus serves:

  • shopping and recreation centres
  • libraries
  • senior citizen clubs
  • community health centres.
A 10-seater bus with hoist is also available for hire, including after hours and weekends. Contact the Ageing and Disability Services team of Council from 8.30am to 5.15pm, Monday to Friday for more information.

Knox

Bridges Connecting Communities

A team of volunteer drivers provide door to door transport for eligible residents to attend medical and allied health appointments, and social support activities when other transport options are unavailable or unsuitable. Includes transport to health appointments at various facilities within the City of Knox, to Lilydale and also the Box Hill and Monash Hospitals.

There is also transport available to attend the Bridges Social Activity Groups and a Community Shopping Bus, to Knox City and Stud Park shopping centres. Transport is provided to clients residing in the following areas: Bayswater; Belgrave; Boronia; Ferntree Gully; Ferny Creek; Kallista; Kalorama; Knoxfield; Lysterfield; Menzies Creek; Monbulk; Mount Dandenong; Olinda; Rowville; Sassafras; Scoresby; Selby; Sherbrooke; Silvan; Tecoma; The Basin; The Patch; Tremont; Upper Ferntree Gully; Upwey; Wantirna and Wantirna South.

There is eligibility for this service. To find out more about the service or request a trip, contact 03 9729 9499. New clients need to make contact at least 14 working days in advance of the day the trip is required.

Knox Council

Knox Council have vehicles available for hire for community clubs to book in advance, to use when providing social trips for Knox residents. The community clubs need to be providing social trips for residents who have limited or no access to transport services.

There are three vehicles available:
- Two midi coaches, which are 37 seaters. These are equipped to convert to emergency response vehicles with capacity to transport injured people lying down
- One small bus, which is a 12 seater. This vehicle has two wheelchair bays.

Manningham

Manningham Community Health Services Limited

Provide a community transport service for residents of Manningham, to attend appointments within the local Manningham area and the Peter James Centre at East Burwood only. The service is provided through volunteer drivers, with trips provided to doctor or dentist appointments or other medical appointments such as podiatry. Residents are collected from their own home and the driver will sometimes stay and wait during the appointment, then returned straight home.

You need to ring and book at least three days in advance, with the trip details and the cost confirmed the day beforehand. Transport to hospitals or the city, shopping centres, chemists or supermarkets etc is not provided by this service. A trip contribution is requested: $9.00 for trips up to 14kms; $15.00 for trips between 15 and 24 kms; $20.00 for trips between 25-35kms; and trips to the Peter James Centre are $20.00.

The eligibility criteria is as below:

  • Residents must be living in their own homes, a retirement village or a supported residential facility and be a frail older person or have a disability or be the carer of someone who is frail aged or has a disability.
  • The resident must find it hard to use public transport and not have access to other forms of transport such as family members or friends
  • They must also be a client of Manningham Community health Services Limited

Manningham Council

Manningham City Council offers an Assisted Transport service for residents from Monday to Friday, providing transport from a resident's home to destinations in the community, such as Senior Citizens' Clubs and local shopping centres.

Residents need to be assessed as HACC eligible to use the service and the service (including destinations and times of travel) must be booked in advance.

Nillumbik

Nillumbik Council

Council currently provides shopping trips for older people, people with a disability and their carers who cannot or do not drive. The bus runs on the following days:
• Monday - Greensborough Shopping Centre
• Tuesday - Diamond Creek Senior Citizens Club
• Wednesday - Greensborough Shopping Centre
• Every second Friday - Epping Plaza - Plenty Valley Westfield - Northcote Plaza - Preston Market
The bus is driven by volunteer drivers.

Thursday Community Bus

This bus is reserved for people who cannot drive themselves. It is aimed at residents who are older or living with a disability and who live in Hurstbridge, Panton Hill, Smiths Gully, St Andrews and surrounds.

The main destinations are in Hurstbridge, Diamond Creek, Greensborough and Eltham. It can pick you up from and return you to your home (or other location of your choice).

There is a wheelchair hoist or you can transfer to a seat if you prefer. All the drivers have completed training so that they can safely assist people who use a wheelchair.

LINK Community Transport - Out and about Service

This community bus service operates Monday to Friday and is for older people and people with a disability who are eligible to receive Home and Community Care.

The service can be used by Nillumbik residents to get to recreational and social activities such as shopping, going to the library, the leisure centre, attending a club

Healesville Interchurch Community Care Inc (HICCI)

HICCI is a network of local christian churches which provide volunteer services to the local community. HICCI runs three programs, Emergency Relief, Volunteer Community Transport and a community meal in Badger Creek, Chum Creek, Coldstream, Dixons Creek, Gruyere, Healesville, Steels Creek, Toolangi and Yarra Glen.
